Tasting Notes: Intense dark purple in the glass, with inviting aromas of cranberry, blackberry and
baked cherry pie. The palate is velvety and smooth on entry, where ripe fruit weaves through
oak notes of baking spice and toast, layered over savory roasted meat and dried herbs.
Concentration and density carry a powerful finish that speaks to Red Mountain.
Cellaring: This Cabernet is drinkable now, showing youthful fruit and a silky texture. For those
who enjoy cellaring, its natural acidity and tannin structure will let it age gracefully for 20–25
years.
Production: The fruit comes entirely from the Obelisco Estate vineyard, where high-density
planting yields smaller berries and more concentrated flavors. Grapes were hand-picked, lightly
sorted and fermented two weeks on the skins to extract flavor, color and structure. The wine
then aged 20 months in a mix of new and one-year-old French oak, giving the robust tannins
time to soften.
Harvest: The 2022 season began with a cold, wet winter that put significant moisture
into the soil. Early varieties budded at the end of March, in line with recent years,
until a freak April blizzard stalled budbreak across the Columbia Valley for two to
three weeks. Cool weather held through bloom, and by the time summer heat
arrived the season was already two to three weeks behind. October delivered ideal
conditions, running five or more degrees above average for near-perfect finishing
weather. Slightly larger berries and clusters gave wines of balance and finesse.
