2024 Rosé
The 2024 Obelisco Rosé is here! Here are the tasting notes from our winemaker:
2024 Obelisco Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
AVA: White Bluffs
Vineyards: High River
Bottling: 190 cases, 750 ml bottles
Alcohol: 13.4% vol.
Fermentation and Aging: Stainless Steel
Tasting Notes: This Rosé is noticeably darker in color than most Washington Rosé. The wine has aromas of ripe strawberry and watermelon with a hint of Linden flowers. On the palate, the wine continues to be red fruit dominant, and there is a harmony between the velvety texture and the crisp acidity. This wine shows the powerful style of Obelisco Rosé, with the elegance of Washington State.
Production: The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were grown at High River Vineyard in the White Bluffs AVA. Just north of Tri-cities, this vineyard lies at 400-800ft elevation with sandy-loamy soils. It is a cooler region within Washington State, allowing for slower ripening and higher natural acidity levels, which is exactly what we want for Rosé. The grapes were harvested on September 24th and the juice was allowed to soak on the skins for 2 days to extract color and flavor. The wine was fermented in stainless steel to retain the fruity aromatics and aged 6 months on lees to add weight and a soft texture to the wine.
Harvest notes: The 2024 growing season started off cool, but there was a nice heat spike in May. June remained mild and vineyards were on track with the 20-year average. There were a few stretches throughout the summer over 100oF, but generally, it was a mild growing season. Harvest began about 7-10 days later than normal, and natural acidity levels were higher than average. September and October continued to be pleasant allowing for slow and measured ripening. The 2024 wines show freshness and opulence and should be considered a classic vintage.
