2023 Rosé
The wait is over for 2023 Obelisco Rosé! This wine showcases our concentrated winemaking style, with the elegance of Washington State.
2023 Obelisco Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
AVA: White Bluffs
Vineyards: High River
Bottling: 197 cases 750ml
Alcohol: 14.1% vol.
Fermentation and Aging: Stainless Steel
Tasting Notes: This Rosé is noticeably darker in color than most Washington Rosés. Aromas of strawberry, raspberry, and watermelon rind are very inviting and lead into a hint of savory, herbal notes. On the palate, the wine continues to be red fruit dominant, and texture is a perfect tapestry of velvety texture and crisp acidity.
Production: The Cabernet Sauvignon used to produce this wine is grown at High River Vineyard in the White Bluffs AVA. Just north of Tri-cities, this vineyard lies at 400-800ft elevation with sandy-loamy soils. It is a cooler region within Washington State, allowing for slower ripening and higher natural acidity levels, which is exactly what we want for Rosé. The grapes were harvested on September 26th and the juice was allowed to soak on the skins for 2 days to extract color and flavor. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tank to help retain the fruity aromatics and aged 6 months on lees to add weight and a soft texture to the wine.
Harvest notes: The 2023 growing season started off cool, with bud break and bloom about 2-3 weeks behind the 50-year average. The Columbia Valley had a near idyllic Summer with only 1 week of temperatures over 100F. This allowed for slow and measured ripening. Temperatures remained steady through August, and with slightly below average crop levels, harvest began throughout the valley in late August. As usual, September and October were sunny with cool nights, allowing the grapes to retain their natural acidity and retain their freshness.
